Magnesium Hydroxide

Other Name: Mg(OH)2 , Magnesium hydrate , Magnesia , Magnesium dihydroxide , MDH

Product Description

Magnesium Hydroxide (MDH) is the inorganic additive for free-halogen or non-halogen flame retardant and smoke suppressant (smokeless). MDH gives the flame retardant compound to be good flame-resistance , no toxic gas , no corrosion to processing equipment,. MDH is used where the processing temperatures exceed 200 C, for example, thermoplastic material and elastomer that it requires high processing temperatures, which Aluminium Trihydrate (ATH ) is not able to be used. ATH also has more corrosion to processing equipment than MDH due to ATH has higher hardness. MDH is decomposed when it is heated to be above 330o C to be water by 30% of its weight. With this decomposition, MDH is an inert or suppressant to flame or combustion of material, but mechanical property, impact strength and tensile strength of the material will be reduced by the addition of large amounts of the magnesium hydroxide. MDH  is  used in rubber, plastic , electric apparatus , engineering plastic , etc. that  they are based on polypropylene (PP) , polyethylene  (PE) , unsaturated polyester (UP) , PS , PC , ABS , EVA , PVC , EPDM etc.
